dude its a virus that edited the autorun.inf file(it is read only) of ur drive,
symptoms:

1.hidden files not able to see even if we tick "show hidden files" it goes back to "don't show"
2. Every drive opens in a new window when we try to open drive by double click
3.yahoo disappears
4. May happen - applications may not b installed, even if u try to do, the installation dialog will disappear.
5.Even task bar will minimize to tray if u open it(i think)

check for scandal.avi,killer.exe processes in ur taskbar

There are two solutions
1.Download avast(i prefer professional version from some warez sites)
scan ur PC it will remove the autorun.inf files,

now take ur HDD and connect it as slave to ur frnds PC,

after that dont open the drives by double clicking, instead type drive letter (Ex: E:\ or C:\) to open a particular drive in the address bar of My Computer,

now enable hidden files and remove the file scandal.avi(if scandal not found Install Kaspersky version 7 or higher it will do it)

also try taskkiller.exe from google(type "how to remove scandal.avi in google") to terminate processes that u can't terminate using taskmanager

the above solution should solve ur problem.

Even then if ur problem is not solved then get ur harddrive a backup n ur frnds HDD(dont try to open the drive's by double cliking on them, instead type drive letter as i mentioned earlier )


Now do a FULL FORMAT for ur HDD,(only formatting C:\ is not advisable and it will not solve the problem)

also from now try to open external devices(like pen drives etc) through address bar, to prevent ur self from geting attacked


also check for folders which are with size 229KB or < 1MB with no files in them(that is a virus- this can b removed with avira)

After getting ur problem solved try to use Avira / Bit Defender with regular updates

while trying to open c: or d: or e:
it shows "open with window"
i am able to open my drives only from address bar..
wht kind of virus it is?
scannin with avira detects nothing....
plz help me to solve the problem
