Here is John Grisham - The Innocent Man
Ronald Keith Williamson's early life appeared charmed. A successful school and college baseball player, he seemed to have a world of opportunity at his feet. But, after injury put paid to his sporting career, he slowly began to show signs of mental illness, and drifted into a life of petty crime and misdemeanour. When in 1982 a local girl was found raped and murdered, he was in prison serving time for kiting cheques. Whilst there, another prisoner, looking for release, alleged he had overheard him confessing to the killing, and Williamson was arrested for the crime. What followed was one of the most appalling cases of a miscarriage of justice America has ever seen. From the point of his arrest, Williamson was taunted by prison guards who held back the medicines he was prescribed to control his psychiatric problems, meaning that when it came to trial he was distressed and not lucid. At the trial itself he was never given fair representation - his lawyer was not only blind, but had also never handled a criminal case before, and never entered a plea on Williamson's behalf, that he was not fit to stand trial. Williamson was found guilty, and sentenced to death. Despite many appeals, he was final given a date for his execution - Sept 24th 1994. It was only due to the last minute intervention by a group of appellate lawyers working on his behalf, who sought a writ from the district court judge, that he was given a stay of execution of five days. Here, for the first time, Grisham delves into this story, tracing the man, the case and the trial, and showing how, thanks to this team of dedicated legal professionals, the real truth about the case came to light. Evidence surfaced to completely exonerate Williamson, and he was freed in April 1999. He later won a settlement in court for his conviction, but sadly passed away last year. Code:

This is the only one I have
David Baldacci - The Camel Club It exists at the fringes of Washington, D.C., has no power, and consists solely of four eccentric and downtrodden members whom society has forgotten. Their simple goal is to find the "truth" behind their country's actions. One man leads this aging, ragtag crew. He has no known past and has taken the name "Oliver Stone." Day and night, Stone and his friends study wild conspiracy theories, current events, and the machinations of government, hoping to discover some truth that will hold America's leaders accountable to its citizens. Yet never in Stone's wildest nightmares could he imagine the conspiracy the Camel Club is about to uncover... After witnessing a shocking murder, the Club is slammed headfirst into a plot that threatens the very security of the nation, full of stunning twists, high-stakes intrigue, and global gamesmanship rocketing to the Oval Office and beyond. Soon the Club must join forces with veteran Secret Service agent Alex Ford, who becomes an unwilling participant in one of the most chilling spectacles to ever take place on American soil. It's an event that may well be the catalyst for the long-threatened Armageddon between two different worlds, and all that stands in the way of this apocalypse are five unexpected heroes. In THE CAMEL CLUB, bestselling author David Baldacci paints a frighteningly vivid portrait of a world that could be our own very soon, and the few people who have a chance to stop the chaos... Code:

A famous coach is murdered in a crowded stadium. His most-prized possession--a ring set with the stunning Pink Panther Diamond--has vanished in the melee. The French government needs a master detective on the case, but the head of the Paris Police Bureau is unwilling to jeopardize his chances for the Medal of Honor with such a difficult, high-profile assignment. Surely Inspector Jacques Clouseau, a clumsy provincial gendarme with a knack for ignoring the obvious, could fill in without upstaging his superiors. Within seconds he proves his genius by narrowing the list down to just 60,000 suspects! Pink Panther fans know Clouseau will recover the missing gem, bring a killer to justice, restore a Republic's damaged pride, and win the gratitude of an adoring nation. And he'll attempt to beguile the beautiful singer rumored to be at the center of the whole felonious affair. But the real mystery is how the bumbling detective will actually do it! Code:

I am very eclectic. I like almost everything, horror, suspense/thrillers, comedy, some romance, some law shows, it all really just depends on my mood at the moment and how occupied I want my brain to be at one time. Do I need to focus on my computer? Then I put the tv on something mindless, like Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. Is it a slow computer day? Then I will put the tv on something like, Law and Order. That show requires a little more brainpower to keep up with it. |
